Hey Chuckn - are you familiar with both Grey Reef and the Miracle Mile? Is one considerably better than the other? Or to put it another way, can the Miracle Mile hang with Grey Reef?

Thanks for the advice folks. Probably going to do a N. Platte trip.

MT is where it's at in the spring! I live in Missoula and and Rock Creek is decent if you are willing to go up really far, also I would fish the St. Regis on your way in! Most people pass it up cause its along i90 but if you can deal with the roar of the occasional semi you are guarunteed to catch some nice trout in there! Lastly, give the a shot at about mile marker 76... clarkfork

Stinkle,
Funny you should mention the St.Regis.Most of my wifes family live in the Mt.Vernon,Anacortes,LaConner area, every summer I drive from Montana for a visit. And,every time I make this drive and drive past the St.Regis I begin muttering to myself about how NEXT year I'll bring a rod and stop for some fishing.Would you care to elaborate on your experiances with this cool little creek.Hem

South fork of the snake is hit and miss that time of year, but its great when its on! Nice to hit it before the water level gets high from run off and irrigation season. To let people that fish it compare, summer flows avg 12k feet , winter usually 800 to 1200, Sure gets the fish concentrated.

Yes i am familiar with both fisheries... and everything else between those incredible series of dams. both of my roommates in montana guide and fish it way too much...myself included when the wind isn't blowing 90mph... grey reef is definitely lights out and i would concentrate my efforts below this dam...

contact jason at cowboy drifters and he will hook it up. great dude.

on a serious note sw montana is always a good call as well...

looking at all the answers, there are way to many places to fish in the spring. Just change your plans and fish from April-November...

If you don't mind wind check out a the Spring Creeks in Livingston this time of year. They are half priced and will be loaded with fish. Stay away from the spawners, they will be really easy spot and need to be avoided at all cost. There will be a ton of trout in the holding riffles and runs. It is a real blast. This is the best time to fish anywhere in SW Montana as there are always days that warm up to the 40's which gets the fish feeding furiously. Egg Patterns, san juan worms, wd 40's, blood midges, its all gravy. Have fun and respect the fisheries, it is real nice to go to a place where people actually respect the landowners and pick up trash even if it isnt their own. I moved here from there and miss it every day.

Fish on.

The St. Regis is under the general season, so closed until May.

I was up on the Beaverhead today. Up in the closed area. As I was standing on the bank looking at the water a big Brown swam by. If he's still there in May I'm going to try for him.

The weather is about 47 degrees out today and no wind. Gotta love it here.
