My early experience with Paypal was very good. However more recently I have become less satisfied with the Paypal experience.

I recently bought a guided gear fising trip for me and my brother in law who is coming out from Virginia this summer and doesn't fly fish. So far it has taken over a week to get the guide payed and I kinda feel bad about it. Most guys on here that I've had transactions with can vouch I like to get things done in a timely manner.

It took 5 days to transfer funds from my bank account to my Paypal account, which I think is a crock. I'm not sure what this E-check thing is but it seems confusing to me. Now that the money has been transferred, it appears it may take another 5 days for the money to get to his account. It should NOT take 10 days to make a payment when all the accounts are already established!

It seems more of a scam to keep your money in their account so they can draw interest off it or something? :beathead:

And they have posted confusing amounts and terms. It shows the payment has been cleared but not confirmed. What the heck does that mean? If it has been cleared than payment should have been sent and the transaction completed?

And when I tried to leave some feedback or get some answers cleared, the e-mail response says it may take 3-5 buinsess days. Who wants to wait that long for a response?

Anyway off my soap box, just thought I'd share my recent, dissatisfied experience with Paypal.

i don't know how your paypal is setup but my directly withdraws from my bank account. instant transfers. call paypal and figure out how to setup your account to make more efficient payments.

paypal actually sides with the buyer more than the seller.

that's what pisses me off as i sell tons of stuff on ebay.

E Checks take longer, they wait on the funds to clear just like a regular check. If anyone is going to pay me by E check I inform them that I will not ship until Ebay notifies me that the funds have cleared and the money is in my account. Depending on the bank the funds are drawn on it can take up to and over a week.

If you accept an E check for a Ebay purchase you will get notification when it payment is recieved,

Hope this helps

Thanks for the input guys. I didn't want to use E-check and not sure why it was run like that. I had my checking account linked for automatic transactions to my Paypal account so that's partially why I got frustrated with the time it took to make the transaction work. You wouldn't think it should take that long to make the transaction if the automatic account was already established.

The current status indicates the funds have cleared but yet payment has not taken place. I don't understand that component. When trying to call, I got bogged down with the automated telephone system and hung up.

I think they want you to setup instant credit using their credit but I prefer to use funds from my checking account rather than using their credit.

I can't fathom how it could take 10 days to transfer money from my Paypal account to the seller account when I already had a direct withdrawl account established?

Moral of the story, don't use E-check (which I didn't want to do) and you are better off having the funds in your account if you want to make a quick transaction.

Chris,

I saw an icon advertising instant credit for use with Paypal. It looks like you establish an account with them rather than using a personal checking account. I would liken it to creating a banking account with Paypal. I suppose that would allow instant payment capability.

When I pay I can generally use three options, use my paypal balance (if I have one), from my checking account or from my credit card. All three are immediate payment methods so the recipient gets that money into their paypal account as soon as I click send. When I receive payment from a buyer their money enters my paypal account immediately also. The only delay I see is when I want to "cash out" my paypal balance and move my paypal money into my bank account. That generally takes 2 or 3 working days. I've found paypal a very useful payment tool for sending and receiving. Thus far it has been good for me and I use it a fair bit to do my part for recycling fly fishing gear and stimulating the economy.

Do you have a credit card set up with PayPal? If you do, that, by default, becomes an alternate source of funding.

If you don't have an alternate source of funding, I think you're only allowed to pay by E-Check. Funds are transferred and held until they clear, just like a check. This is done, again like a check, in case it turns out your payment bounces for one reason or another. I would think bouncing a PayPal payment would be harder to do than bouncing a check, but apparently it's not impossible.

On the other hand, if you do have an alternate source of funding, PayPal will transfer the money immediately. It comes right out of the buyer's bank account and right into the seller's PP account. It only takes a few minutes. If the payment bounces, PP charges it to the buyer's credit card.

Even if you do have an alternate funding source, there's an option on the payment page to use an e-check. I can't think of any advantages of doing that, but it's there to click by mistake if you want.

Echecks will take 5 to BUSINESS days to clear. If there's a weekend in the tranaction period, add two more days.

What's worked best for me is the Paypal Buyer Credit program: funds are transferred instantly and it has many consumer benefits, most importantly for you as the buyer. Didn't want[or need] another CC Card, so passed on that one. Just pay in full on first billing....the rates are as bad as all the other AHoles!

I can say that GETTING your money takes longer on the sellers end. Normally it takes a day, maybe two (eventhough they say it takes 3 days to deposit to your account) to get my money. Last couple times it was 5-7 days. Don't like that money sitting in limbo like that for that long. Can understand if it was an e check. Want to make sure people get paid, so hold the funds.

I have had phishing scam attempts come in with the appearance of PayPal communications. I don't have a Paypal account, but that's why I don't use it. There is fraud protection and legal limitations/remedies with a MC or VISA, so that is what I use. I never use a debit card, ever for any reason on line. If those won't work, I go another route.

payal rocks!

get account verified, also asdd a credit card to it, then it is fast, but I have NOT tried the e-check deal. i have a card from paypal also, more like a DEBT card than a credit card.... it works damn good too!

I use PayPal all the time, but only for credit card transactions. I recently sold a couple reels to a member in California and had his CC payment within minutes of his confirmation PM and net proceeds swept into my checking account by the end of the same day.

Yes, there's a fee associated with doing so, but that's simply the price you pay for not suffering through a sluggish e-check transaction. There's no free lunch in life.
