Has anyone used these?I've seen them available in multiple sizes and styles for $6.99 / 100. Seems to good to be true for a quality hook. Anyone have any tales to tell?

I ordered some of the Saber hooks in my favorite sizes. At this point, the price is hard to beat. I'm not sure who makes them but I'll give them a go. If it turns out they are a decent hook, the price will start to edge up... as is per usual for flyfishing products.

I was in the same boat last year. I ended up doing a restock of my commonly tied hook sizes/shapes. My thoughts are, the "light wire" hooks, ie small dries, light nymph hooks, are indeed on the light side. I have yet to have any break, but bending is pretty common on the small dries (16-below).

I really like the heavier wire hooks. I bought 12 curved BL hooks for pupa and scuds and the 14-16 straight shank for PT and other nymphs. These are my go-to hooks for just about everything.

There are definite QC issues that are expected for hooks this price. Every pack of hooks I got had a few that had no eyes, overly crimped shank from eye shape, no bend, etc. They aren't the best, they aren't the worst. But for $30, if 25% of the hooks are bad and the rest work, it's still a pretty good deal.

edit** just realized this was from 3 years ago. Sorry!

Turns out that I started using Saber hooks a few months ago. I haven't found any quality problems yet and I know they work for tying flies that catch fish. So, as far as I'm concern, as long as they can keep the price low and the quality up, I'll continue to buy them.

I have used Saber hooks for a long time. You will find an occasional bad hook like an eye that is not closed or a misbent hook. I had one a couple of days ago - a misbent hook.

I think where they save money is in quality control. BUT the defects are so few, maybe one hook out of 400 that the number of defects are negligible.

Give them a try.
