I have read on forums for at least a year that ordering a spey or switch line from Steve Godshall is a wise move. I didn't listen and purchased several lines for my Beulah spey. Recently purchased a switch rod and made the call to Steve. He spent 20 minutes on the phone discussing my unique specific needs. I do hope to fish Alaska again but I live in Iowa. NOBODY spey casts here and the water is diverse. We decided a skagit and a compact scandinavian line should cover all my needs. So I sent payment for two heads for $60 each. A bit higher than an off the shelf line I thought. Told him I hated stripping mono running line so a 75ft running line, real fly line style running line was offered at half price $20. After I pay I am told I get two free tips. Tips are not cheap. See pic below. Looks like three leader/tips instead of two. And a free line wallet I didn't own but needed. Free shipping. I am pleased, no very pleased. I can hardly wait to try this gear out. I only purchased a fly line but was treated like I was buying a high end fly rod or a boat. He even took the time to contact my favorite Alaskan guide to make sure I was describing my tip needs properly. What incredible customer service! I'll update thread with my actual casting experience. He is very familiar with my rod so I highly suspect I have the correct fly line for my rod and needs.

I haven't been here long enough to know what you are referring to. Most of the sponsors on others forums I frequent are attentive. or informed if somebody is displeased. They always fix the problem fast as near as can tell.

I am sure you will not regret calling Steve.

I've purchased a few lines from Steve and have always been really pleased. I most recently bought a Skandit type line with an integrated running line for my 3/4 trout switch rod and it works really well. He really knows his stuff and as you said, he's extra helpful.

I've dealt with Steve a couple of different times. Call him, you won't be disappointed. The first time I cast a line from him it was Wow! Boomed out casts with little effort. And his line cost is about the same or less than buying off the shelf.

All the above x2. He has intimate knowledge of most rods and like his associate (boss, partner?) Bob Meiser is just so good at what he does. I have his scandi with integrated running line (Mendmaster), a Scandit and last February had him make me up an intermediate sink scandi after using a guides. I showed up at the shop about 4:30 p.m. and we discussed details, he told me he'd have it in the morning. WTF? Really, what time? "Oh, I'm here about 06:30". Next morningI'm offered a cup of really good coffee from his Keurig (sp?) and handed my new line. How's that for service. Both he and Bob are just super people as well.

Ressurecting an old thread, but just wanted to toss my .02 in here on Steve's lines and service. All top notch and lines are great. Similar experience, told him what my rod was, what I was trying to accomplish and boom, a couple days later a line that cures some of my 2-handed ills (by no means of mine) shows up and performs great. Customer for life here.

Steve is the man! Warning though, if you call him your going to be on the phone for awhile! Great, great guy. I’ve had him make me several lines and I swear these lines have made a better caster out of me. Or maybe they were just paired so well with the rods I use them on. One of the lines I have is a scandoid with a integrated sink 2” per second on the front. You can really dig deep in some runs with a sink tip added to this!

All in all customer service, shipping time, price, are all excellent! I will always call Steve for advice.
