What's your favorite cold and wet weather fishing hat?

After years of simply using a baseball hat, I've come to the conclusion that there has got to be a better option for cold weather fishing. I like the bill of the hat, as it helps when I wear a rain jacket and hood to keep the hood out of my line of sight. But Baseball hats just don't provide any real insulation...What works for you? Ideally I'd like to find something that has a bill, is light weight, water proof, and provides a good insulation. Any ideas???

All I have ever used is my wool stocking cap under my camo jungle hat. That has been the best thing for me. Later on durning the day when and if it does warm up or I'm getting too hot with it on I can take off my stocking cap, put it into my cargo pocket on the back of my vest and just wear the jungle hat.

I'll stick with one of my many baseball hats year 'round to keep the sun off my increasing bald spot and to shade my eyes. When it gets wet, I just pull up the hood of my rain jacket over it.

When it gets wet and cold, I'll wear a Columbia fleece baseball-type hat with roll-down ear flaps and a removeable waterproof nylon outer shell.

When it's just plain cold, I'll wear a polyester balaclava under the baseball hat and a fleece stocking hat or a fleece headband pulled down over my ears.

When your head's warm, everything else feels a lot warmer.

Skinny,
I use an Elmer Fudd hat that is kinda like a baseball cap on steroids. It has a bill which I really need in the rain as it keeps my rain jacket hood from getting down on my glasses. It has a lightweight foam innerliner that pulls down over the ears to keep out wind chill and then when it really gets cold you untie the Elmer Fudd fleece muffs on top and tie them down around your chin. I bought it new at a yard sale for a buck so I have no idea who made it but I believe Cabela's sells something similar. CAUTION!! It is not stylish! If you are into comfort it may be just the ticket. If you are into style.....well maybe going to the mall or taking up golf would be a better option.
Last year at a Sportsman's show I found another new goodie-a gore-tex lined fleece Balaclava that can be worn with a baseball hat as a waterproof hood, can be worn as just a fleece hood or pulled up Balaclava style or finally can be worn as just a super turtlenck bunched up above your collar. In an emergency it could probably used as a bucket to fill up your radiator, water your horse or fill with huckleberries, whatever.
Lastly I have a goe-tex lined stocking cap that gets used a lot around the ranch. It is good in snow, easy to pack and very light weight. Ive

I'll second the motion on the Outdoor Research Seattle Sombrero! Under it I wear an OR Powerstretch Balaclava, for cold days. But...there is something called the OR Snoqualamie Sombrero! Waterproof and lined. It has a fold down fleece flap for covering the ears. Very functional, just needs a bit of sheepskin glued on to hold the lucky flies! You can get 'em through most outdoor retailers. I bought mine at Mountain Gear in Spokane WA. Lots of cool clothes for outdoor endeavors! www.mountaingear.com

Been using a goretex thinsulate style duck hunting hat like this RedHead from Bass Pro. See link below. Have several of these now. Got to have the earflaps. That with my bacalava and hooded insulated wading jacket and I am good to go down to twenty degree temps. I have a good duck hunter friend and I always ask him what they are wearing. Its cold winter steelhead fishing out here in the great lakes lots of 30 or lower degree days and if the wind is blowing you better be well prepared.

I use the standard baseball hat during the summer. For most part, I use one during the winter too. I normally switch to a standard cotton, to a wax cotton baseball hat. BUT, when it gets really cold and rainy, I pull out the stocking cap and just throw my hood up.

Glad someone else brought this question up cause its a dilema I cant resolve. First I have a small head so baseball hats dont usually fit me comfortably without standing really high. Second, baseball caps have a tendancy to push my sunglass arms too tight into the side of my head. In the winter its not a problem cause I throw on a fleece stocking cap and its all good. Keep posting links so I can see other options people use??
